Itan to Re-brand Nigeria with Adipeng 2009

Information Technology Association of Nigeria (Itan) plans to contribute the campaign of re-branding the country with the host of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (Witsa) conference.
The conference theme; Advancing the Dynamics of ICT Policy Engineering for E-government (Adipeng 2009) is expected to hold from April 20 to 24 2009 at Abuja and will be attended by over 70 Information Technology industry associations from economies around the world.
Dr. Jimson Olufuye, president, Itan, explained that Adipeng 2009 is a world class workshop organized by Witsa and Itan that is holding for the first time in the country.
He said that Adipeng offers states, local governments and entities without an ICT policy opportunity to adapt better practices for a leapfrog experience.
“This is a global conference for ICT policy decision makers across all levels of governance in Nigeria,” he said.
Chris Uwaje, managing director, Connect Technologies and ex-official member of Itan said that recent world development activity indicators have demonstrated that the central battle ground for global competitiveness will be in the ICT policy and strategy domain.
The critical mass of such strategic development policies and implementation he said will be focused on e-Government, e-Commerce, e-Business, e-Education and Cybersecurity. These he added present great challenge and opportunities for Africa where Nigeria represent a very important factor.
It would be recalled that Itan was admitted into Witsa last December to represent the Nigerian IT and Services industry. Witsa members represent over 90 percent of the world IT market as well as the global voice of the IT industry. It advocates policies that advance the industry growth and development; facilitating international trade and investment in IT products and services and strengthening Witsa’s national industry associations through the sharing of knowledge experience, and critical information.
Founded in 1978 and originally known as the World Computing Services Industry Association, Witsa has increasingly assumed an active advocacy role in international public policy issues affecting the creation of a robust global information infrastructure.
