Nokia Unveils Applications for Muslims during Ramadan

In line with its established reputation for innovation, Nokia, the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile devices, has announced new applications in its devices that allow Muslims who use Nokia devices to effectively take part in the spiritual activities that are synonymous with the month of Ramadan.
With the applications which can be downloaded on Ovi store, Muslims can now use their phones to keep track of prayer time, read the Holy Quran, listen to the Hadith and reflect on Adhkar prayers.
The devices which include X3, 5230, N97 mini, C5 and C3, have alarm that alerts users on the respective prayer times.
Philip De-La-Vega, general manager for Nokia West Africa, said the move is a demonstration of Nokia’s commitment to continually seeking innovative ways to connect people and add value to their lives using mobile devices.
According to De-La-Vega, the new applications also allow Muslims to listen to large collections of praise worship otherwise known as Adhkar. They can also learn how to read the Holy Quran, Hadith and Duaa. With the Global Positioning System (GPS) available on the phones, users are guided on the correct direction of the Qiblah which directs them on prayer positions. The most innovative feature about the application is that it is location specific, which means that alerts on prayer times automatically change depending on the location of the Phone user.
De-La-Vega also stressed the need for users of Nokia phones to take full advantage of the numerous applications available on Ovi store including Music, videos, games and navigation. He maintained that Nokia will stop at nothing to ensure that it continually surpasses the expectations of most phone users who have become accustomed to the brand.
