Telecommunication operator, Globacom and the Ogun State government signed a partnership agreement on the provision Information and Communications Technology services to the government.
The pact involves the provision of 1000 contract lines to the Ogun State-owned Gateway Information and Communications Technology (GICT) Limited, which is the Information and Communications Technology unit of the Ogun State Government in a bid to deliver high level performance.
According to Enitan Ayorinde the company's general manager, operations, GICT chose Globacom for "being the most reliable and effective telecommunication company in Nigeria".
The Glo package to GITC consists of contract lines with 100% Close User Group (CUG), meaning that all the civil servants on the platform will make calls to each other for free, while calls made outside the group will be at a substantially reduced rate.
The lines will be serially activated within the user group and will be placed on the Easy Pay platform where they can have their lines credited through the normal recharge cards. The package also comes with a phone for each line.
Commenting on the agreement, Globacom's Head of Public Sector, Mr. Tunde Amunikoro disclosed that the telecom giant and the GICT had been working on the partnership for months before finally concluded in April 2009.
The ultimate objective of the Glo - GITC partnership is to enroll over 10,000 civil servants in Ogun State on the programme, beginning with the 1000 lines already provisioned.
