The company also stated that it is committed to investing vast human capital and material resources in the Wi-Fi standard formulation.

This is just as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has launched the latest wireless local area network (WLAN) standard — 802.11be, also known as Extremely High Throughput (EHT), which will be officially designated as Wi-Fi 7.

Wi-Fi has evolved through seven standard generations, starting with 802.11 and now the era of Wi-Fi 7 or 802.11be.

The 6 GHz spectrum of Wi-Fi 6E is passed down to Wi-Fi 7 based on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. With cutting-edge features including multi-link operation, Wi-Fi 7 achieves a 4x improvement over Wi-Fi 6 in terms of space resource utilization and potential Wi-Fi speed increase of up to 46 Gbps.

According to a public report released in 2021, Huawei is on record for submitting the largest number of Wi-Fi 7 standard contributions.

The IPlytics 2021 report stated that beyond that, Huawei is also the leading contributor in terms of standard contributions for Wi-Fi 4, 5, 6, and 7 and has accumulated many innovative technologies and patents, as well as being the front-runner in the Wi-Fi industry standards.

Dr. Osama Aboul-Magd served as the chairman of the 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) Task Group, and Dr. Edward Au, as the technical editor of the 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) Task Group, and has been fully involved in the formulation and release of the Wi-Fi 7 standard.

On September 20, Huawei launched the industry’s first enterprise-class Wi-Fi 7 AP at HUAWEI CONNECT 2022 in Bangkok, helping enterprises develop more innovative applications.

On October 26, 2023, Huawei won the award for the “Best Enterprise Wi-Fi Network 2023” from the wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) during it 11th WBA industry award held in France.

Huawei’s new Wi-Fi 7 AP showcases the company’s many innovations, including intelligent antenna tuning, dynamic 5GHz and 6GHz band switching, extended backhaul/power infrastructure, and IoT sensing capabilities to meet the growing traffic demands at many enterprise locations.

The outstanding technical innovations demonstrated in the Wi-Fi 7 installation at Shenzhen Talent Institute can be scaled at other high-demanding enterprise locations worldwide through the company’s global presence

Huawei AirEngine Wi-Fi 7 series APs open the door to new experiences and can connect to a large number of IoT devices simultaneously.

This in turn provides powerful performance, excellent experience, and extraordinary reliability to help enterprises construct an intelligent IoT world.

Most Reverend Lucius Ugorji, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), the Archbishop of Owerri has raised caution on the deployment of Artificial Intelligence.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria

Ugorji called for a balance that prioritises human welfare alongside technological progress, mindful of ethics and morals, as well as risks such as job displacement, threat to world peace, spread of falsehood through propaganda, manipulation of the human person, and privacy concerns through advanced hacking and deepfakes.

The clergyman raised the concern during the ComWeek Public Lecture in Abuja on Artificial Intelligence, noting that the exclusive use of technology in religious formation, pastoral care, and education has enhanced theological knowledge, accessibility and mission of the universal church.

Keynote Speaker at the event, Father Anthony Akinwale, deputy vice chancellor of Augustine University Lagos, dismissed the speculations that the intellectual roles of humans will be replaced by Artificial Intelligence, explaining that AI relied on humans to function and did not have a mind of its own to choose to or not to obey commands with which it was programmed.

Akinwale further cautioned that AI should be solely used for the common good of mankind and not for destructive purposes.

Most Reverend David Ajang, chairman on Social communication of the Catholic Bishops Conference, called for a reflection on the power of communication as a divine gift, “one that holds the potential to bridge divides, enlighten minds and unite hearts in the pursuit of truth and common good”.
