Agoha, Ezex Express Boss Commends Fashola on Development
Philip Agoha, general manager of Ezex Express Courier Services Limited, a leading courier firm in Nigeria has commended Gov. Raji Fashola for his renewed efforts in the provision of infrastructure in Lagos State.
Speaking to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, Agoha said with the idea of making an area metropolitan means that activities that can generate income to the state will be going on round the clock and with adequate security in place , he said is capable of bringing back night businesses back to the area. Such a development, he reiterated will impact well on the courier sector.
Apart from the area of infrastructure, Agoha emphasized the need for people who are knowledgeable in the courier business to manage the affairs of courier saying that too many people are jumping into the business without having first to study the environment properly which he said contributes to people closing shop sometimes one or two years after floating a courier firm. "It shows they were not prepared for what they were going into. If they had identified what they were going into, they should have been able to carry on what they can manage or what they have comparative edge for over others", Agoha said.
Describing Ezex Express as a licensed and registered courier company that operates courier business, logistics and haulage here in Nigeria, he said that right from inception of the company, Ezex has always distinguished itself in what they believe in even as he enlightened that the company came into business with well defined and articulated vision and mission on how to be an important player in the sector. Agoha assured that they are into the business to create a niche for the company especially in those areas where other courier companies could not handle very well especially in the area of delivering services to the northern parts of Nigeria where even the aircraft find it difficult to service.
With the company’s wide branch network and the logistics and strategic partnership it enjoys with God Bless Ezenwata Transport Service, Agoha said part of their niche is to be a courier company for other courier companies and informed that the way they are doing this is by concentrating on their areas of competencies instead of putting their hands in many pies even as he revealed that the company is looking at the possibility of opening and registering an office in London that will take care of their foreign transactions.
Agoha said being able to identify the needs of their customers and satisfying them adequately are the key selling points of the leading courier firm." Because of the urge to make money, people misconstrue these points but because we see our customers as the reason why we are in business, we identify their wants and even go a step further by confirming what they need. We identify and satisfy them. Secondly, we have a lot of people who are our apostles. While our friends and associates in the industry are going about looking for customers, we are making apostles", Agoha said.
With the licensing of the new courier companies in Nigeria, Agoha said it is an indication that the industry is growing and that it is no where close to saturation. He believes that there are so many opportunities to tap in the industry apart from courier business and said that a courier firm doesn’t need to concentrate in the whole of the country but instead should concentrate in area where it has the financial muscles to do so.
On the efforts by the company to improve services, Agoha disclosed that the firm had recently acquired twelve brand new motor-cycles to increase the company’s operations and opened up new branch offices in different parts of the country even as he said the company has also employed a new head of admin to take care of the company’s staff welfare and other administrative matters tailored towards satisfying their customers as successfully and efficiently as possible , which he said is their watchword.
Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has said that it has obtained Winding up Orders for 96 out of 183 microfinance and primary mortgage banks whose licenses were revoked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in May 2023.
Bello Hassa, managing director, NDIC, stated this at a sensitisation seminar for Judges of the Federal High Court in Lagos organised by the NDIC, to enlighten the judiciary on the intricacies of the banking industry.
Hassan said, “As at date, the Corporation had obtained Winding up Orders for 96 out of 183 Micro Finance and Primary Mortgage Banks whose licenses were revoked by the CBN in May 2023, in less than one Year of revocation.”
He added that the NDIC was committed to fulfilling its mandate of protecting depositors through bank supervision, failure resolution and liquidation so as to boost confidence in the financial system.
Speaking on the role that the judiciary plays in the fulfillment of the mandate, Hassan said, “We recognise the judiciary as one of our critical stakeholders. With this, when cases are brought before them, they can receive accelerated hearing and proclamation of Justice.”
Citing some of the achievements from previous editions of the seminar, Hassan said that instances where liquidation-related litigations experienced delays were reduced.
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has withdrawn its earlier circular directing financial institutions to implement the national 0.5 per cent cyber security levy after the policy was largely resisted.
The withdrawal of the circular was announced via a statement signed by Haruna Mustafa, director, Financial Policy and Regulation, Department and Chibuzo Efobi, director, Payment System Management Department.
The apex bank confirmed the suspension in a circular issued on May 17, 2024 with reference number PSMD/DIR/PUB/LAB/017/005 addressed to commercial banks, mobile money operators, and other financial institutions.
In an earlier circular issued on May 6, 2024 with reference PSMD/DIR/PUB/LAB/017/004, the bank mandated financial institutions to charge a 0.5 per cent levy on all electronic transactions.
President Bola Tinubu last week ordered the suspension of the National Cybersecurity levy.
Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) has revealed plans to launch a satellite into orbit, co-designed and dedicated to the Nigerian Army to enhance the military’s capabilities and boost operations.
Mrs Jane Egerton, managing director/chief executive officer, NIGCOMSAT disclosed this during a visit to Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, chief of army staff.
Mrs Egerton said the decision was taken considering the severity of the service being rendered by the Nigerian Army to the nation in the fight against emerging threats.
The NIGCOMSAT boss acknowledged the long standing relations with the Army and its zeal in tackling security challenges in the country.
She noted that the partnership between the two bodies is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country’s military operations and national security and leverage satellite technology to drive economic growth and development.
In his remarks, the COAS stressed the need to partner with the NIGCOMSAT to enhance communication capabilities and improve military operations.
Lagbaja said the partnership was crucial to providing reliable and secure communication services and enabling the Nigerian Army to access a wide range of satellite-based services, including telecommunications, navigation, and surveillance, which will significantly improve its operational efficiency and effectiveness.
The army chief lauded the vital role of NIGCOMSAT, which serves as a formidable foundation for NA operations, especially in the North-East and North-West regions.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to Executive Order 5 of President Bola Tinubu compelling departments and agencies to patronise made-in-Nigeria goods.
He described NIGCOMSAT products as top-notch and affirmed his desire to expand the frontier of cooperation and partnership that exists between NIGCOMSAT and the Nigerian Army.
Nigerian Army chief also pledged to support the communication company in the launch of its new satellite into space to improve NA operations.
