Tech4Dev to Train over 7000 Girls in ICT

Tech4Dev plans to train 7200 young women across 12 states in Nigeria.
Announcing this in Akure, Peace Odili, the programme manager of the Nigerian Women Techsters Initiative, said the programme partly funded by Microsoft, will train 7,200 women between ages of 18-40 on coding skills across 12 states in Nigeria over a 3-year period.
Odili also revealed that training sessions would take place virtually over the week, with participant taking online courses in entrepreneurship and change making, and physical training sessions over the weekend facilitated by professionals in the ICT industry.
“Tech4Dev with support from Microsoft is partnering the Office of the First Ladies, State Ministries of Women Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs across the 12 States in Nigeria with high female – male parity within the technology sector, to establish the Nigerian Women Techsters Initiative.”
“The beneficiary states are: Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Kwara, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Kano, Kaduna and Kebbi states,” Odili said.
She said the organization recently trained about 200 youths including 70 ladies in Lagos and Ondo States on digital literacy, especially coding and analytical skills, exposing them to available employment and entrepreneurship opportunities within the technology industry.
She said any interested young women should fill the application on the website with the first cohort scheduled for Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo states.
Executive Director of the group, Joel Ogunsola said his group is a social enterprise non-profit focused on solving the world’s greatest problems through technology with primary focus on public health, civic engagement and education.
Ogunsola said the Nigerian Women Techsters Initiative was conceived to help solve the growing problem of unemployment that has continued to plague youths, especially young women in underserved communities.
“Our goal is to empower young women with technical skills in web and mobile software development, embedded systems development and games development.”
Speaking at th event, the representative of Microsoft Nigeria, Olusola Amusan said the organization is supporting the initiative to bridge the gender gap.
He expressed hope that the initiative will help empower families who would benefit from programme and commended wife of the Ondo state governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu for her support and interest in the future of the girl child.

As a way of bridging the gender digital gap in an unprecedented manner, a non-profit organization, Tech4Dev is to train 7200 young women across 12 states in Nigeria under an initiative known as Nigerian Women Techsters.

Moove Achieves Unicorn Status With $250m Funding

Mobility technology company, Moove has raised $250 million in a Series C funding round at a valuation of $2.1 billion, reaching unicorn status.

The startup will deploy the fresh capital to build out autonomous vehicle infrastructure, expand fleet ownership, construct robotics-focused “Nests” for charging and maintenance, and grow its autonomous workforce from 150 to 500 by year-end.
The company plans to enter additional global markets, reflecting a strategy to build the operational infrastructure required for large-scale autonomous transportation rather than simply supplying vehicles.
Led by Mubadala Investment Company and co-led by Woven Capital, Toyota’s Growth Fund, and Ion Pacific, the round also included new investors BlueCrest Capital Management, Sona Asset Management and The Raptor Group, alongside existing backers BlackRock, MUFG, Franklin Templeton and Uber.
“Autonomous mobility is becoming an infrastructure race requiring fleets, charging systems, maintenance, data infrastructure and continuous city-level operations,” said Ladi Delano, co-founder, co-CEO and advisory board chairman of Moove.
Founded in Lagos in 2020, Moove has grown into a global mobility platform employing about 3,300 people across 29 cities in 13 countries, operating approximately 42,000 vehicles and reaching $420 million in annualised recurring revenue.
It has expanded organically and through acquisitions, including Kovi in Brazil and Tokyo Taxi in Japan. Moove also operates autonomous vehicle fleets in partnership with Waymo in Phoenix and Miami, with London expected to join its footprint.
The $2.1 billion valuation places Moove among Africa’s small group of tech unicorns, alongside Flutterwave, OPay, Moniepoint, Andela, Chipper Cash, Wave, Tyme, MNT-Halan and Interswitch.
The $250 million round is the largest single funding deal announced by an African startup this year, though EV mobility firm Spiro raised $270 million cumulatively across two separate rounds.
