Peter Asolo, chief executive officer, PetVini Global Concepts Limited has called on the federal government to rethink the strategies to developed the country’s information and technology sector.
Asolo said that the woes which have befallen both technical and software developers in the country could be linked to nonchalant attitude and lack of political will of Nigerian leaders.
According to him, the government has continued to play politics while the technicians and software experts are experiencing hardship.
The PetVini Global Concepts boss said that “A leader of a community or a team determines the direction that the group or organisation will go. And when a leader wants a particular innovation or solution to grow, he or she will take bold steps by encouraging the indigenous entrepreneurs, who by chance are the pace-setters.
“The question we should ask ourselves is this: why is it that when Nigerians travel abroad for competitions they come on top, but the same solutions they go abroad to showcase are not considered or tapped into in Nigeria? Though the ministry of technology I learnt is trying to do something in that direction now; the questions is how many Nigerians who are entrepreneurs will be encouraged through that. I am an entrepreneur who understands the terrain and yet to see any encouragement from that”.
Asolo however noted that in reality technology is beginning to grow in Nigeria, “because whether we like it or not it has come to stay”.
He added that there is no application language or code in the world today that eludes any software developer in Nigeria.
“Nigerians are doing well in all the languages. The only thing we have not done successfully is to implement the manufacturing of the equipment due to our industrial challenges,” Asolo said.
