The Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) is to unveil tamper proof certificate in a move to check fraudsters who falsify its certificate to perpetuate sham practices.
Similarly, the Council is oiling existing relationships with some government agencies in order to checkmate the excesses of individuals and corporate bodies that get information technology contracts with dubious credentials.
Professor Vincent Asor, CPN’s President, dropped the hints during the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) 12th International Conference held in Akure recently; stating that continued growth and curtailing of capital flight in the Nigeria IT industry depends heavily on engaging genuine practitioners for accountability and transparency.
Asor said that new CPN certificate with standard security features, is part of the present Council’s image management mandate and will reduce or completely eradicate incidences of fraudulent practices with the use of the Council’s certificates by some unregistered members of the profession.
“Additionally, the rising profile of the Council in the country has made it mandatory for it to restrategise and make its document that are available in the public domain to be tamper proof,” the CPN President said.
Asor who warned unregistered members of the profession to desist from acts capable of tarnishing others image, added that the Council is on a mission to maximally develop the potentials of information technology as a veritable source of income earning for registered individuals, organizations and the nation, hence they “are conscious of the fact that IT, if properly harnessed, can serve as a source of foreign exchange earnings for our dear country”.
To checkmate the excesses of people and corporate entities that access IT contracts from the Government, he said that the Council will not rest on its oars until such practices are contained.
To achieve this, Asor said, they are already working with government agencies including the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to ensure only those with valid licenses are granted access to such contracts.
