Austin Agbakor, CEO, Computer Village Hub (CvHub) has said that its vision is to train one hundred thousand Nigerian on software development across the country.
He stated this at the grand opening of Computer Village Hub (CvHub) over the weekend at Computer Village, Lagos.
Agbakor, said that CvHub is a project that is bent on powering one hundred thousand Nigerians on computer and ICT skills, that is, anything that has to do with information technology particularly software development, programming, web design and so on.”
He noted that they are working with companies like Codefest Nigeria, Microsoft, Lagos state government and other agencies to ensure that they deliver free training to Nigerians.
According to him, “we started planning this project for the past three years with our partner Codefest.
“We know the challenges facing our nation Nigeria and we also know that many good projects have come out and closed shop between five months to one year because of improper planning.
“We have a very good plan to sustain this free training that is why we are partnering companies like Microsoft, Lagos State Government and other agencies in order to sustain what we are doing.
“It is not a project that’s based only on ideas alone but we have ideas and information that we need to sustain the project.”
Agbakor also emphasized that the free training will start from Monday 6th of August with a project called “catch them young” summer coaching classes.
‘Catch them young’ project according to him is focused on students who are currently on break from indulging in crimes and other social vices.
“We’ve decided to start a project we call ‘Catch them young’, because we found out that many schools are on vacation now and students are at home.
“To take them out of crime and social vices, we decided to start a program called software camp.
“It will start from Monday 6th of August, we will be giving students free training on how to use computer, and how to use software course called scratch.
“It is software that will help children develop the skills of software programming, then we will teach them how to use Excel, Microsoft word, power points and so on, he added.
He earlier stated that his journey into software development began while he was hawking pirated CD’s at the street of computer village.
He added that, one does not need money to start a business but needs good will, noting that his good will to his customers while he was hawking helped him to earn their trust and thereby started delivering software products to people in other states in the country.
Victor Morgan, software developer, Codefest Nigeria, speaking at the event reiterated their commitment to training one hundred thousand software developers across Nigeria.
He stated that their aim is to develop software that can be used locally as well as exported outside of the country.
According to him the future of any nation is in the development of information and communications technology.
He expressed optimism that Cv Hub will develop products that would be tagged made in ikeja.
