Data Recovery, Essential Process for Business Surviva

Global statistics as reported by Relational Bus systems (RBS) have shown that hardware or system failure accounts for 78%, human error -11%, software corruption – 7%, and natural disasters -1% of all data losses.
The report states that 31% of PC users have lost all of their files due to events beyond their control, 40 – 50% of all backups are not fully recoverable, and that up to 60% of all backups fail in general.
In the light of this information, one may pause to wonder why the science of data recovery has not gained popularity among Nigerian businesses, which depend so much on data for everyday operations.
Bolanle Omotoso, director, West African Operations, Myung Information Technologies (MIT) & MD of Data Recovery Specialist Limited (DRSL) in a media parley recently stated that it is about time businesses and individuals begun to back-up their data to avoid losing essential parts of their existence.
He marveled at the absurdity of operating a multi-million Naira business of which data plays a significant role and then, not being able to make provisions for back-up or disaster recovery.
DRSL offers premium services including data recovery from computer systems, CD/DVD, flash drives, servers, cell phones, digital camera, MP3/MP4 players; data loss prevention, data wiping or secured data destruction services.
Others include data migration, digital forensic investigation & witnessing services, disaster recovery strategy planning/development, business continuity strategy, data recovery/forensic investigation and training consultancies.
DRSL has collaborated with MIT, a Korean company which has core competence in data loss prevention and recovery. To this effect, Omotoso stated: “With our relationship with MIT, we have become West Africa’s foremost data recovery and computer forensics service company with accreditation to exclusively operate and carry on professional services as part of the globally networked business offices of the world renowned repair and service company.”
Data recovery is a science of salvaging lost data files from a crashed, corrupted or physically damaged electronic storage device, namely hard disk, CD/DVD, flash drive, tape drive, etc. In the forensic language, it is a critical step towards uncovering lost or deleted information in order to defend or establish a business case.
