Internet Service Provider, Direct On PC has won for the sixty time ‘Best Internet Service Provider’ award at this year’s Nigeria Information Technology and Telecoms Award (Nitta 2008).
Anurag Garg, head of operations, said in a statement that that DOPC has risen from strength to strength “doing and offering services never believed could be offer,” he said.
DOPC was established in June 2002 and launched the Ku-Band Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) services same year, and by January 2003, the Ku-band SCPC services joined the bouquet of products on offer. A year later, C-band SCPC was introduced and quickly warned itself to the hearts of its customers in Nigeria and the West Coast region.
In June 2005, the company launched its fixed wireless service in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt & Ibadan bringing basic affordable broadband to thousands of customers.
Garg added that the company turned its direction to the enterprise market and established an iDirect Hub in Lagos with KU and C Band internet and intranet services coupled with its fixed wireless services, making it a serious player in hybrid networks in the enterprise market.
According to him, the company has also launched pure WiMAX services under its own brand “Unwired” in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt -under roll out, which has made broadband widely available and affordable. This is a remarkable achievement that has provided internet users opportunity to have a plug and play modem or a portable PCMCIA card.
The quality of bandwidth and the ease with which the customer sets up and gets going is just superb and is remarkably of international standards. The services entail customised Internet and Intranet plans for the Banking sector, Corporate, Oil & Gas, Educational Institutes, Government sector. It offers excellent solutions for the Home & Small Medium Enterprise (SME) segment as well.
The company launched the premium Ku band Hub. This is an HX hub which is based on the latest DVB-S2 technology with built in ACM. The platform is capable of delivering up to 3mbps uplink & 45mbps downlink at the customer end. On this hub; services will be provided to high end customers who need bigger internet bandwidth. This is an SCPC like solution which can be really beneficial to customers in the current situation when bandwidth on C band is scarcely available.
