Etisalat Nigeria, Nigeria’s most innovative telecommunications company has spent $2billion building network in its first year of operation and the directors are happy with the telco’s progress, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has learnt.
With an array of creative and exciting products such as Easy Starter, Easy Cliq and now Elite World in the Nigerian market, Etisalat said it is satisfying all communications needs of its subscribers.
Hakeem Belo Osagie, chairman of the company, said that the journey of the last twelve months have been that of a promise fulfilled.
Speaking at the event to mark the first year of its commercial service in the country at a grand gala nite held in Abuja, Belo Osagie said: “At the launch of our commercial operations in the country twelve months ago, we made a solemn promise to the Nigerian nation: a promise to bring to Nigerians the same world-class products and services Etisalat is known for in the 17 other countries we operate in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. We are very happy that one full year on, we are able to come before you with our scorecard to show evidence of a promise fulfilled.”
He disclosed that Etisalat had invested hugely on its network expansion in the last one year.
“We have over 500 active cell sites across the nation. We have actively covered about 40% of Nigeria’s population. We have over 2 million active subscribers on our network. We have spent over $2billion cumulatively building our network,” Belo Osagie said.
Steven Evans, chief executive officer of the company, said that the last twelve months had witnessed the launch of Easy Starter and Easy Cliq product packages respectively; the winning of a number of awards and sponsorship of promotions that have affected the lives of Etisalat subscribers positively.
“We have also run several promotions in the short space of our one year of operations. These promotions have empowered Nigerians from all walks of life as their lives have been enriched, dreams have been realized, goals in life met and many financially uplifted. In a couple of weeks, we would be doing much more through the biggest prize money promotion ever in Africa, 9jillions. One lucky Nigerian would work away with a million dollars”.
The occasion also witnessed a formal presentation of Elite World, the new post paid product package designed to meet the needs of new and existing upwardly mobile customers on the innovative company’s network.
