Opera and Google has announced a collaboration towards enhance the accessibility and usability of Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) for mobile phone users, combining the best attributes of both apps and mobile sites, resulting in considerable data savings.
“PWAs start out in web browsers, just like normal websites. When a user continuously uses the site, an install banner is shown, allowing users to add the site to their home screens,” said Andreas Bovens, Opera for Android Product Lead who recently spoke at the PWA Roadshow event in Lagos.
Opera Mini, a popular data compression browser, is regarded as super-fast and great for saving mobile data (up to 90%).
According to 1 Enders Analysis, here are some additional features you may not have known about Opera:
Ad-noying
Face it, some ads are extremely annoying. To make matters worse, ads and background trackers can steal up to 79%1 of your data – that’s almost NGN80 for every NGN100 you spend on data.
They also slow down web pages by as much as 90%. Opera Mini for Android’s ad-blocking feature enables users to block all ads, showing you just how many you’ve blocked and how much faster your browser has performed, as a result.
In-sync
So many of us have multiple devices (iPads, tablets, laptops etc.) and switching to your phone can be a schlep when your bookmarked stuff is on your PC.
Thanks to Opera Mini’s sync function, this is no longer a problem – now you can seamlessly transition between devices and keep your important browsing info at your fingertips.
Give Me A Boost
That video still buffering? Opera further accelerates the loading process by reducing video size meaning you save even more on data costs.
See Ya Later
Video streaming can be very exhausting. A lost connection doesn’t just waste time, it also consumes more data.
Opera Mini’s video download feature is the browser’s latest
innovation, enabling you to download videos from top video and social media websites on your phone for later viewing, even when you’re offline – excellent when you are on the go.
Parlez-vous Français?
Opera Mini also enables browsing in over 90 languages, including African languages such Afrikaans, Zulu, Sesotho, Kiswahili and more.
