John Holt Nigeria and John Holt Liverpool Ltd have donated two giant power generators to Anambra State which the companies said is in response to the appeals by Governor Obi for private sectors to contribute to the development of the state.
Receiving the Generators, the Governor said the State was complementing it meager resources by extending its goodwill to attract support from stakeholders, friends and donor agencies.
Presenting the generators, Chief Christopher Eze, Chairman, John Holt said the donation was in response to Governor Obi’s call for support to improve facilities in the University and a way of the company saying they are satisfied with the credibility he is introducing in government business.
Chief Eze noted that the vision of the state to evolve first class university and quality education, there is need for privileged individuals to assist in providing all necessary facilities and logistics as no university can fund quality education on its own.
Governor Peter Obi in turn presented the two, two hundred and fifty KVA power generators to the Anambra State University for its campuses at Uli and Igbariam.
The Governor who earlier gave the university a 160 KVA Generator, recalled that the vehicles for the State Urban Mass Transit Scheme and many other facilities were donated to the state free of charge.
Handing the generators over to the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Governor Obi thanked the donor for their kind gesture and expressed the hope that the facilities will help to improve conditions of teaching and learning.
Receiving the generators, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Professor Elochukwu Amaucheazi thanked Governor Obi and the donor for rapid response to the needs of the University which he observed is in line with the policy of the state government for supporting all sectors.
Professor Amaucheazi said the generators would provide great relief to the two campuses of the University which he said were presently receiving little or no public power supply as the Uli Campuses receive minimal supply from PHCN while the high tension wire to the Igbariam campuses had been vandalized by bandits.
In his reaction, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Iheanacho Orajiaka urged stakeholders in Education to emulate the donor and support the expansion of the university to meet the education needs of the teaming children of the state.
