MainOne Focusing on ICT Development

MainOne, one of West Africa’s leading communication services company and the first private undersea fiber optic cable to land in Nigeria and Ghana, has reiterated its commitment to broadband penetration in the sub continent.

At the recently concluded TENT Gathering 2013 Techie entrepreneurial forum organised by Paradigm Initiative Nigeria, MainOne provided bandwidth to participants availing participants opportunities to have a feel of real time fast internet connection.

The event, which had as its theme, “Competence, Collaboration , Competition,  sought to expose Nigerian students to technical, business and leadership requirements for ICT innovation and help jumpstart the culture of innovation and enterprise in the mold of global companies that started from the university halls of young founders.

Speaking on the CSR policy of the Company, Lynda Madu, head, Corporate Services and Development, explained that ICT is a major focus of MainOne’s CSR initiatives. She further revealed that the organisation intends to support the efforts of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria, PIN, to build young talented, entrepreneurial Nigerians and provide an avenue where they will showcase their products (ideas) and learn how to improve and create wealth from their skills and set out on a journey that ensures personal development, corporate growth, national relevance and global participation.

In his response, Gbenga Sesan, executive director, Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) expressed appreciation to MainOne for its contribution to the success of the annual event, adding that organisations should come together to support such initiatives as it will aid in developing the students in the long-run.

The event had in attendance students from various tertiary institutions to include: Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Benson Idahosa University, Benin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Ilorin, Ilorin and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The students were tutored on entrepreneurship among other topics by renowned speakers like: Professor Pat Utomi, Sim Shagaya, CEO, Konga.com and Mario Valle Reyes, Director, Business Development, EA Arts Inc.

Since 2011, MainOne has been involved in TENT, supporting it yearly with financial support, and bandwidth connectivity for the entire gathering.

The Company’s propagation of ICT development in tertiary institutions and with the youth population is at the core of its Corporate Social Responsibility tripod of Education, Information and Communications Technology.
