MainOne Cable Company which is building the most trusted, scalable and professionally managed international fibre optic network in Africa is to crash the price of E1 line of 2 Mbps between Lagos and London to about $500 at launch, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has learnt.
The immediate spin off is lower cost of bandwidth to the end user who are hungry for unlimited bandwidth to fire the kiln of their businesses and homes.

The current price for an E1 line of 2 Mbps between Lagos and London is about $5,000 but Funke Opeke, chief executive officer, MainOne Cable Company, said thatthe pricing on MainOne network will be approximately $500.
MainOne, is a 1.92 terabits per second capacity cable system that is designed for a 25-year life span, and will traverse 14,000 kilometres, with approximately 7,000 kilometres in the first phase between Lagos and Portugal.
Opeke informed that MainOne fibre project is one that spans for 21 months. It commenced in August 2008 and would be completed and ready for launch by June next year. She said it has been six months since the first down payment was made, and that a surveillance vessel has already been mobilized to ford the coasts of those countries through which the cable will run, to analyze the submarine terrain.
