Idex, a developer of advanced fingerprint solutions for mass markets, has worked with MasterCard to develop a remote self-enrollment solution for biometric cards.
“Issuers and consumers are increasingly demanding biometric cards, and to successfully deploy this in volume there is a need for mass enrollment,” Idex CEO Stan Swearingen said in a press release. “The revolutionary solution announced today does not require users to enroll in a branch office, and does not need any new infrastructure.”
The low-cost process allows users to enroll entirely on their own. The process is takes place entirely inside the smartcard using its standard secure EMV chip with no need for an external computer, smartphone or internet connection, the release said.
Convenient, cost-effective enrollment that doesn’t require a branch visit is a key enabler for mass deployment of biometric cards, Idex said.
The company’s solution can be used with both contact and contactless biometric cards.
