MTN Partners InterSwitch on Virtual Top-Up Solution

MTN Nigeria and InterSwitch, a major e-Payment platform provider in Nigeria have launched an electronic charge (e-Charge) solution, which enables subscribers to the MTN network top up their mobile phones without having recourse to recharge cards.
This service allows InterSwitch debit cardholders the convenience of recharging their mobile phones on any InterSwitch enabled Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and Point of Sale (PoS) terminals across the country.
However, the service has been activated on the ATMs of 10 Nigerian banks which include: First Bank, Union Bank, GT Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Fidelity Bank, Skye Bank, Spring Bank, UBA, Unity Bank and Access Bank.
The MTN Virtual Top-Up (VTU) solution comes with no charges and cardholders who are MTN subscribers can buy any amount ranging from N50 to N6, 000; and have the option of recharging other people’s phones from an ATM or PoS terminal.
It is available to both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers on the MTN network. A post-paid subscriber can re-activate his line or prevent it from being disconnected using the VTU platform.
However, the solution has been engineered in such a way that there is always evidence each time a transaction is performed. Besides getting a printout slip, an SMS notification is sent to the subscriber’s phone confirming the transaction – this bears the reference number of the transaction, date, time and the address of the ATM.
MTN Nigeria said that the m-Commerce innovation would undergo series of transformation, going live on ATMs and PoS terminals at present. Subsequent platforms would include the mobile phone, Internet, as well as kiosks.
Both companies have also teamed up to address issues, which may arise from the use of these services. More so, subscribers who encounter problems during transactions have been advised to call the appropriate MTN helpline or consult InterSwitch’s ExtraSwitch platform for reconciliation of transactions.
VTU is the remote top-up or recharge of lines without the need for recharge PIN.
