Amed Rufai, managing director, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigcomSat) said the company would collaborate with state governments and banks to provide Internet facilities across the country.
He said that NigcomSat was meeting with the various state governments and banks in order to get them to partner in the project.
“We are already meeting with state governors so as to get them to participate and the response we are getting is encouraging,” Rufai said.
He was optimistic that the partnership with state governments and banks would accelerate the provision of Internet facilities in the rural communities.
“The arrangement, essentially, is meant to bring computer and Internet access to all nook and crannies of the country,” he said.
He added that NigcomSat was setting up community satellite tele-centers to enable the people access computer and Internet services across the country. And that NigcomSat had began to establish two of the pilot projects in each state of the federation.
"The tele-centers would be of different categories. The categories would include the mini centres which would have 15 to 20 computers; the midi would have about 50 computers and the mega- centres would have over 100 computers,” Rufai said.
He said that the ratio would, however, depend on the population density of an area.
