Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, the Postmaster General (PMG) of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), has said technology evolution has compelled NIPOST to innovate its products and services in line with technology trends, in order to facilitate the ease of doing business across the country.

Adewusi made the clarification in his opening remarks during NIPOST Day, at the 2021 Lagos International Trade Fair, organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Adewusi who was represented by the Lagos Zonal Manager at NIPOST, Mrs. Toyin Egbesola, said, given the mandate to provide postal administration and services to all Nigerians, NIPOST had since repositioned in line with modern technology, to enhance ease of doing business across the country.

According to Adewusi, “Communication is critical to connecting business, and postal service is one of the most popular medium of communication.

“In spite of the development of electronic means of communication, postal service has not lost its relevance. It is more important in a developing country like Nigeria, where it has not been possible to develop the modern means and make them accessible all over the country.

“Effective postal services, facilitate business activities and make the business environment more conducive for the public. NIPOST helps to make the remittance of trade values in terms of money order, postal order, stamps, and financial services, more convenient.”

He explained that in places where there is no banking facility, postal service would always be there to provide ease of business.

President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Toki Mabogunje, in her welcome address, said the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector has demonstrated an uncommon resilience in the spirit of competition of the digital transmission of messages across the globe.

She commend the innovative leadership at NIPOST that has initiated new models of postal services to remain relevant in the communication ecosystem.
