NIRA Appoints New COO
The Executive Board of Directors of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has named Mrs. Edith Udeagu as the new chief operating officer (COO) and Secretary to the Board.
Mrs. Mary Uduma, president of NIRA made this disclosure in Lagos and said that Mrs. Udeagu takes over from the acting COO, Mr. Akinbo Cornerstone, who was seconded from the Board since July 2013, following the resignation of the erstwhile COO, Mr. Opeoluwa Odusan.
She noted that Mrs. Udeagu who resumed at NIRA on Monday, May 12, 2014, was born in 1960 to Ambassador and Mrs. V. N. Chibundu, a career diplomat of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1960, attended various institutions in multiple countries across continents culminating in a her first degree, B.Sc Mathematics with Computer Science (Second Class Upper) from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1983) and a Master of Science degree in Optimization & Computing from Loughborough University of Technology, Loughborough, Leicestershire, United Kingdom (1985).
Mrs. Udeagu, she said worked in the Information Technology (IT) Unit of Mitchell Farms of Ibru Organisation, before moving to the IT Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Lagos as an Assistant Manager in 1990.
She worked in various capacities and several committees in IT Department of CBN from April 30, 1990 till June 30, 2011 when she retired as acting Deputy Director, Security Management Division, Information Technology Department.
Whilst at the Central Bank of Nigeria, she rose through the ranks and obtained several certifications including Certified Information Systems Audit (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) all from ISACA, previously known as Information Systems Audit and Control Association and ITIL Foundation Version 3 certificate from the APM Group. She distinguished herself in the IT Security field and as the Project Manager for the Central Bank of Nigeria Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS).
She was the Head of several offices within the IT Department over the years and distinguished herself with her dedication to work and the establishment. She also represented the Central Bank of Nigeria in various committees within and outside the Bank notably the Nigeria Automated Clearing System (NACS) implementation, e-Commerce & e-Transaction Bill from National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Project, RTGS Working Group of Payments System Vision 2020, to name a few, even as Mrs. Udeagu acquired several skills, including on business, technical, managerial, leadership and soft skills over the years, before retiring from CBN.
As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Mrs. Udeagu promises to eagerly contribute her quota in re-engineering the .NG registry to boost the update by keeping to the best global industry standards in her new position as NIRA Chief Operating Officer and Secretary to the Executive Board, in addition to moving the brand higher in the near future with her wealth of experience in the IT industry.
A member of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), ISACA, PMI and Ikoyi Club 1938; the Board is pleased to have Mrs. Udeagu head its Secretariat to move NIRA to next level of the organisation’s mandate.
