Resourcery Plc, systems integration company in West Africa in partnership with Cisco, the global leader in networking that transforms how people connect, communicate and collaborate has successfully implemented Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for MTN Nigeria.
The solution was implemented in twelve (12) major MTN switch sites in four regions across Nigeria.
The successful implementation of this project includes the migration from the legacy IP/MPLS Solution to a modernized future proof technology.
The actual project implementation was completed in six months. This ensures that, MTN can now easily accommodate new and near future technologies especially in its bid to reduce network congestion.
Speaking on the significance of the project, Mr. Chukwunonso Nkenke, National Information Technology Manager, MTN Nigeria, said the company has tapped into the future with this project.
This means it can easily respond to rapidly changing business needs most especially high customer traffic, increased bandwidth demand, VoIP, and video.
As the demand for voice peaks and the need for data increases, the company is better positioned to respond appropriately to the changing demands.
“The MPLS network is a future-optimized platform which would ensure that present and future services on the network would be adequately catered for. We are now better prepared to cater to our customers growing demand for IP based services because the new platform has the ability to scale up to 400Gbps/slot.This would provide the ideal foundation for a full suite of the next generation services.”
“It would also improve our disaster recovery efforts in different ways. First and foremost, our data centers and other key sites can be connected in multiple redundant ways to the cloud (and thus to other sites on the network). Secondly, our remote sites can quickly and easily reconnect to backup locations if needed. This means we have flexible approach to the delivery of quality service to our customers without service disruption.” He added.
