Senator Silas Zwingina, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Adamawa South, has urged party members to work hard to stop Major General Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, from winning the March 28 poll because he (Buhari) has promised to jail corrupt people if elected.
Buhari has made the fight against corruption a cardinal issue of his electioneering and promised to ensure there is no sacred cow in his anti-graft campaign, if elected.
But Zwingina, at a meeting of PDP members in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, said with Buhari’s commitment to fight corruption and given the fact that no politician can withstand detailed investigation, politicians have a lot to fear, if Buhari wins.
He said: “We have to stop Buhari and his plan to build more prisons to jail politicians. You know Buhari, he will send us to jail for between 200 and 300 years. It is the lucky ones among us that will get 50 years.
“As you know, there is no way you will hold office in Nigeria and be scot free if the authorities want to get you. “Buhari is determined to send people to jail and even APC governors are not comfortable with him and that’s why many of them are not following his campaign team.”
He urged PDP members to work hard for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, who he said is better than Buhari.
“Let me tell you that Jonathan is 1,000 times better than Buhari and that’s why people have resolved to vote for our candidate, President Jonathan,” he said.
Buhari had assured Nigerians that all corrupt politicians will end up in jail once he is elected into power.
He said he would block all loopholes through which money was being siphoned out of the country.
“When we come into power, anyone who steals Nigeria’s money will end up in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons. We are going to make sure that Nigeria’s wealth belongs only to Nigerians,” he said.
