UPS Unveils Shipping Management Software

The United Parcel Services (UPS) Nigeria Limited has excited the logistics industry in the country with the unveiling of an automated shipping documentation and cargo tracking device called Flex Global View (FGV).

The software is a one-stop shop in the way of automated shipping information. Sharing benefits of the software at the 3rd Nigeria Courier Summit, Mr. Ralph Ozoude, country manager, UPS Nigeria Limited said that application is a way of encouraging the industry players to buy into technology, harnessing opportunities in the sector while adding value to  the society.

“A vast segment of the industry has not been tapped into in Nigeria. This application is our own way of encouraging the industry to brazen up and catch the fire in technology,” he said.

In a presentation of the benefits of the application, Mr. Emeka Nwangwu, country sales and marketing manager, UPS Nigeria Limited highlighted that the application contains an automated shipping information feature that entails convenience in shipping and cargo tracking and delivery.

According to him, no references required to track one’s shipment and shipment documents are to be made available within 24 hours after  departure.

“Shipment charges become available before goods are delivered, because the application would have enabled you to calculate the landing cost and capture the items effectively. In fact, it implies shipping made easy,”  Nwangwu said.

He said hence the application is also accessible via smart phone no installation was required. The shipping event management potentials of the application connote that there will be constant & current visibility on all movements; information and updates on any delays and the reason for delays;  events that was due to take place but did not, however it does not affect the due delivery date are captured and it will list every leg of the  shipment with planned and actual departure and arrival times.

Also, there are provisions for daily status reports, monthly reports and automated running of reports. “Welcome, take a look around through the features like Drop-down tool bars to navigate you through the system’s features; My Profile; The Resource Library; FGV message board; My Alerts;  My Watch list and My Searches,” he told the captivated audience.

The Transportation Dashboard contains of four windows, Shipment Status  Summary (showing current status of your recent shipments); Overdue Event  Summary (describing any recent shipments for which departure, arrival or delivery is overdue); Quick Search (a platform to track a shipment using a reference, or click Advanced Search for more options) and Top Transportation Reports that promises easy access to the most popular  transportation reports, among other features.
