Winners Emerged in Ispon/Idea Hackaton

Winners have emerged in Institute of Software Practitioners’ of Nigeria (ISPON) and Information Technology Development Entrepreneur Accelerator (iDEA) organized Software Hackathon, which was held in Tinapa Knowledge City, Cross River state.

The Software Hackathon event is a pre-stage activity set to create awareness for the commissioning of the knowledge incubator project promoted by the Ministry of Communication Technology and the National Information Technology Development Agency (Nitda). 

ISPON/iDEA Hackathon in Tinapa was a corporate technology event, held as an idea hunt competition to help bridge the innovation gap that exists between the Nigeria software developers and their Institutions.

The design principles of the innovation competitions include, encouraging young software developers to participate in an open innovation process, to trigger off their potential and inspire their creativity with the aim of increasing quality of their works as well as to generate innovations, process and product ideas for Development through an IT-enabled ideas, competition and accommodating lapses.

The Highlight of the event witnessed the appearance of Senator Liyel Imoke, governor of Cross River State –who gave a very remarkable speech of encouragement to the participants. 

Le-Media from Team 2 made up of Aboluwarin Olaoluwa David , Banjo Mofesola Paul  and Oladapo Oluwadara Glory won the first prize of N450,000 with 3 Nokia Lumia Phones.

EduCare  from Team 5 made up of Kester Uwaje and Tiamiyu Mubarak ,won the Second Prize  of N250,000 and two Nokia Lumia phones; while HealthLaunch Pad  from Team 8 made up of Mark Olofu and Temitope Oguntade.won the third price of N150,000.

Keep Nigeria alive from Team 6 made up of Junior Pius Ekeh and Eyinka Iheanyi won the 4th position and was rewarded with a BlackBerry Z10 Phone. Me-Explorer from Team 3 made up of Okwu Marcus Eke, Anyadike Iheanyi and John Nnanna Oji won the 5th Position and was rewarded with a BlackBerry Z10 Phone.

The Hackathon 2013 event started with registration of participants at about 7:00pm on Tuesday 30th July 2013 (till now is about 45 hours) and in total we have 27 participants after registration.

Briefing: Briefing was done in order to enable all the participants know why they were here for the event and what the event is all about.

The Theme of the event was communicated to all the participants. The Theme for this year Hackathon event is “Media and Entertainment”.

The event is a Marathon Event that will enable all participants to come up with a prototype solution that will focus more on “Media and Entertainment” within the stipulated period (48 hours).

Whatever projects that will be presented should address usefulness of Media & Entertainment in resolving issues in our daily activities be it in Health, Education, Tourism, Information, Security, Aviation, Telecommunication, Sports, etc. We also agreed that the project development can be in any platform – Mobile App, Web, Desktop etc.

Participants introduced themselves with their respective core competencies, among the skills of participants include: C#, C++, Java, j2ME, VB.Net, Oracle, MS SQL, PHP, iPhone SDK, Android SDK and many add on SDKs and Plug ins.

The Information Technology Development Entrepreneur Accelerator (iDEA) is a non-government organization established to establish and promote knowledge Incubation in the country.

While the Institute of Software Practitioners’ of Nigeria (ISPON) is an Information Technology Professional Group established about 14 years ago to foster and promote National Software Development policy and the drive the advocacy of Software Development and entrepreneur capacity building in the Nigerian ICT Ecosystem.
