Federal government has said that FRCN Kaduna would return to its glorious days as the flagship of broadcasting in Nigeria.
Mr. John Odey, minister of Information and Communications, gave the assurance when he paid an unscheduled visit to FRCN transmitting station in Jaji, Kaduna state.
The medium wave transmitter of FRCN Kaduna, installed since 1960, was dismantled this month to make way for a modern 200 kilowatt transmitter.
The minister who was shown round the station by Malam Ladan Salihu,, Kaduna zonal director of FRCN, was told that the technical staff had kept the station on air by their ingenuity.
``I am impressed with the team of the technical staff and their ingenuity in maintaining the old equipment of the station. We hope that when the new equipment comes they should also be able to maintain it ,'' he said.
The minister said the 200 kilowatt transmitter to be installed under a partnership with the Japanese government would be devoted to general service.
``We believe that this would go a long way in addressing some of the problems of FRCN Kaduna,'' he stressed.
He said erratic electricity to broadcasting in the country was not peculiar to FRCN Kaduna alone but a challenge to the whole nation.
``When the problem is solved nationally,it would have positive affect on the broadcast industry.''
Salihu, in his remarks said Odey was the first serving minister to visit the transmitting station in Jaji in the last two decades.
``This underlines the seriousness the minister attached to the growth of broadcasting in the country,'' he said.
He assured listeners that the station would not rest on its oars to reach the next level.
The zonal director said that the minister'svisit ``is an icing on the cake in our effort to reposition FRCN Kaduna.''
