Dr. Aliyu Wamakko, Sokoto State Governor, and Engr. Steven Bello, acting executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, are billed to lead the respective delegations of the State government and the NCC to the Nigeria-UK Telecom Summit scheduled for London on 17th and 18th June, 2010. The event is hosted by Lancaster Conferences in collaboration with the NCC and Ben Television, UK.
The event, expected to attract more than 200 telecom, broadcast and ICT professional across the country, will hold at Strand Palace Hotel, London, and is aimed at promoting strategic growth in the communication sector in Nigeria for Broadband, GSM, ISP providers and equipment manufacturers as well as the broadcasting sector.
Nigeria-UK Telecom Summit 2010 is endorsed by the NCC, with other government agencies including members of the relevant committees of the National Assembly expected to attend. Sokoto State Government is one of the states in Nigeria expected to make a strong case for foreign direct investment in the State for acceleration of its ICT infrastructure deployment for better governance.
Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, may lead the Federal Government delegation to the event.
Organizations expected at the conference include those in the telecommunication sector, Infrastructure providers, Broadcasting Companies, Internet Service Providers, Banks and Financial institutions looking to expand into Nigeria or already operating in Nigeria
Speakers include State Governors, Commissioners, Senators, CEOs of both private and public organizations, developers of latest technologies for communication specific for Africa, broadcast and telecom specialists and research analysts from around the globe.
The event is expected to provide a platform for interaction for the international community with the Nigerian telecom regulator, the broadcast regulator, state governments and other senior members of the Nigerian government with a view to attracting further investments into the country.
An official of Lancaster Conference, Sarah Payne, in a joint statement with Head, Media and Public Relations at NCC, Reuben Muoka, said arrangements have been concluded to host a very successful conference and showcasing of products and services in the telecom and broadcast sectors for the benefit of the participants from across the world.
