Dr. Oyedokun, Nigerian Appointed Chair GFVC Federation of Africa

Dr. Oyedokun Ayodeji Oyewole, a Nigerian, has been appointed as Chairperson for Global Fashion Value Chain (GFVC) Federation of Africa and will preside over all African countries working groups.

Confirming the position in appointment letter signed by the Chairman of GFVC Federation of Africa, Leslie Becker, he will supervise the Federation that berthed in 2016 and was designed for the entire community of Africa’s benefit to create the much-needed jobs and improve the 1% global manufacturing of Africa’s 1.3 Billion population.

Dr. Oyedokun who is the incumbent President and Chairman, Governing Council, Institute of Information Management (IIM Africa), will bring his experience to harness opportunity to map, integrate and disrupt the entire fragmented industry ecosystem on the basis of the 4th industrial revolution principles, and through Partnerships, build the first smart institution of excellence in partnership with International and Continental Senior industry experts; Traditional Leadership, Businesses; Organized labour; Academic Institutions; African Governments and leading industry SMEs.

“The untapped potential presented by the African Fashion Value Chain, disruptive Global era, and AUs Continental Free-Trade Market has necessitated the collective multi-stakeholder partnership to action a collective high impact leadership role in re-industrializing the entire chain, identify and develop new innovative policies, and present Africa with a single common visionary roadmap that will unlock the entire African fashion value chain’s economic potential, achieve the 2030 SDGs, and GFVC FEDERATION OF AFRICA’S VISION”, Becker writes.

GFVC’s vision is to develop a Robust, Disruptive African Fashion Value Chain Economy that solidifies Africa’s position in global manufacturing as innovative and competitive and a globally trusted Institution of excellence in Smart Manufacturing, Trade and Investment – that is also a resource to all of its Pan-African members and beneficiaries.

Dr. Oyedokun is the Founder / President / Chairman Governing Council, Institute of Information Management (IIM) – Africa, responsible for the day – to – day running of IIM (Nigeria, USA, UK, South Africa, Ghana), Record and Information Management Awareness (RIMA) Foundation (Nigeria & South Africa), Wolexdok Micro-processor Ltd and Founder of the International University of Information Management (IUIM), Colorado USA.

A computer professional, his professional career in the late 90s has seen him through Swenig System Nigeria, a Swedish company that specializes in information security, sales, and support of Dr. Solomon Anti-Virus toolkit, where he worked as the Head of the Computer department with technical support functions.

A member of Network and system professionals Association, USA, International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM). He worked for a major Oil and Gas Company in Nigeria (Chevron Nigeria Limited), between 1998 and 2012.

Dr. Oyedokun is a respected international information management practitioner, founder of the Records and Information Management Awareness Foundation (RIMA Foundation), publisher of Information Management World Magazine (IM World Magazine), RIM Africa Journal and Executive Producer of Information Management World on Television (IM World TV). A former columnist of Guardian Newspaper (Fridays) Executive Brief Column (Infotech4dexecutives)

He has received different local and international awards for his contributions to the development of the Information Management industry in Nigeria and Africa. In 2004, he received the “Great Minds of the 21st Century Award” An award presented to him by the American biographical institute.

Dr. Oyedokun was among a thirteen-man committee inaugurated in March 2010 by the Lagos State Government for the formulation of Policy on Records and Archives Management in Lagos State. He was in 2014 named Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation and also in 2015 inducted as the first-ever African Fellow of the Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) United Kingdom (UK), and still the only African till date. His specialties include ECM, BPM, DM, EDMS Implementation/Training, and Consultancy Services.

Speaking on the appointment, he said, “I feel thrilled to have been identified by Global Fashion Value Chain (GFVC) Federation of Africa and to be part of this great initiative aimed at benefiting the entire African community, especially in the area of Job creation for the African youths.

“This is instructive, owing to the fact that GFVC recognizes Africa as the future economic growth engine of the world and we shall work for the common good of the Continent,” he added.

Telecom Management Company Appeals for Cooperation and Safety Measures Over Abaranje Base Station Fire Incident

Carville Integrated Ventures Limited, a telecoms facility management services provider, has expressed deep sadness by the recent fire incident at Abaranje Base Station, one of the several base stations it manages on behalf of Airtel Nigeria.

The incident, which occurred during maintenance operations on a leaking part of a diesel tank, resulted in injuries to some individuals from the local community who forcefully gained unauthorized access into the facility hosting the base station during the maintenance work.

Despite this breach of access control by the impacted individuals, Carville, who has responsibility for the site management expresses its sympathy to the victims and has offered to provide healthcare support to them.

The management of Carville Integrated Ventures, extends her condolences to the affected individuals and their families, stating, “Our hearts go out to those injured in the unfortunate incident. We are committed to providing support and assistance during their recovery process.”

Carville also emphasizes the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility, stating, “We stand by our commitment to the communities we serve, and we will continue to prioritize their welfare in all our operations.”

Furthermore, Carville appeals to community leaders and members to cooperate with the company in implementing safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. “Safety is our top priority, the management affirmed. “We urge everyone to adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of all.”

Carville is working closely with local authorities and regulatory bodies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and implement necessary measures to prevent recurrence.

Google, Kaduna State Others Partner to Launch First Hausa-Language AI learning Series to Expand Tech Education and Empower Women

A new initiative aimed at empowering women in Northern Nigeria through AI education was launched today. Google, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government, and Data Science Nigeria, introduced the AI for Beginners Learning Video Series. This series presents Artificial Intelligence concepts in Hausa, making complex technology more accessible and culturally relevant for the region.

In Northern Nigeria, various challenges can impact access to tech education and career opportunities. These include diverse socio-cultural dynamics, infrastructural limitations, and language barriers. The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series, through its engaging animations and culturally relevant imagery, is designed to make complex digital concepts more accessible and relatable, fostering inclusivity and participation in the growing tech sector.

The launch event, held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall in Kaduna, was a celebration of technology, education, and the immense potential of Northern Nigeria’s women. His Excellency, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor, delivering a keynote address that underscored the government’s commitment to digital transformation and economic growth.

“AI is not just the future; it’s the present,” Governor Uba Sani declared. “By equipping our people, especially our women, with AI skills, we’re not only paving the way for a more prosperous and innovative Northern Nigeria, but also laying the foundation for Kaduna to become a thriving tech hub.”

“We believe that technology can be a powerful force for change and are committed to making learning resources available in local languages to empower more people,” said the Director of Google West Africa during the launch event held at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall, Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna. He added, “This series marks a new milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance AI knowledge across Northern Nigeria, fostering a broader understanding and application of AI technologies that drive innovation and create new job opportunities.”

“By making AI education accessible in Hausa, we’re opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact,” added Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, CEO/Founder of Data Science Nigeria. “These women are the future leaders and innovators of Northern Nigeria, and AI is the tool that can amplify their potential.”

The event also featured speeches from representatives of NITDA and the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, who underscored the national significance of the initiative and the government’s support for fostering a vibrant tech ecosystem.

The AI for Beginners Learning Video Series is now available on YouTube via the Data Science Nigeria platform, on the NITDA education portal, and for download. To further aid in accessibility, the series has also been deployed on USB drives for distribution and direct peer-to-peer copy at all primary and secondary schools, including public video content copying centres across Kaduna State.
