Education: Technology is Now A Catalyst for Developmental Change – Says NITDA DG
Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, director general, National Information Technology Development (NITDA) has affirmed that the world now lives in an era where technology and its innovations have become a powerful catalyst for change in all sectors.
Mallam Kashifu, who was represented by Dr.Usman Abdullahi Gambo, director IT Infrastructure Solutions NITDA, made this known recently during a Webinar event with the theme; Technology, Pedagogy and the Future of Basic and Post- Basic Education in Nigeria organised by M-Solution International.
He said, Technology has a great impact in enhancing and empowering pedagogy, which also enriches the lives of students through products, solutions, innovations and shared values.
“Innovations, imaginations and strong decision making skills are becoming increasingly important in meeting new challenges.
“We need to start implementing new teaching methodologies that can facilitate the development of skills required to participate in a highly globalised digital world,” he said.
He further noted how COVID-19 Pandemic created a global learning crisis, halting physical learning in schools.
“There is no better time than now, for our nation to join the ranks of developed nations who have employed technology to shape the future of their educational system, “he added.
Kashifu stressed that, the aim of every educational institution is to provide the students with a lifelong knowledge, secured with moral values, which will enable them to be successful and contributes effectively to natural and global development.
He said the Federal Government in its efforts to ensure continuous learning during the pandemic has created a task team championed by the Ministry of Education with collaborations with stakeholders and development partners to provide new time guidance on learning resources and to monitor students at home during this period.
According to him, state governments have also keyed by providing various teaching and learning programs through the radio and television medium.
Also speaking at the webinar, Saheed Olusola Balogun, senior special assistant to Lagos State Governor on Science and Technology, said there is need for the educational sector to identify the importance of ICT and the need to start acquiring teaching knowledge from technology especially now that it becomes key to the digital world for economic development.
Similarly, Reggie Rusan, ceo of Simple Tech Solutions, said, for digital teachings to strive in Nigeria, there is a need for necessary infrastructure for today’s and future learnings for students.
Rusan added that technology will continue to change as time goes on but the country must be infrastructural ready for the technological trends.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has suspended the @Twitter account, replacing its profile with a standard notice citing violation of platform rules.

The action, which occurred on Sunday, January 11, left users encountering the handle greeted by a bold “Account Suspended” message on a black screen, with no details provided on the specific rules broken or the duration of the suspension.
The development has sparked widespread confusion and nostalgia among users, given that Elon Musk rebranded Twitter to X in July 2023, approximately six months after acquiring the platform for $44 billion in late 2022.
The @Twitter handle had remained dormant since before Musk’s takeover, serving as a legacy remnant of the platform’s original branding, and its suspension appears to mark the final erasure of the Twitter name amid X’s ongoing efforts to combat spam, impersonation, and rule violations.
X’s official statement on the suspended page simply reads: “X suspends accounts that violate our rules,” without offering an appeal process or further explanation, unlike standard user suspensions.
Public reactions on social media ranged from humorous laments of “RIP Twitter” to speculation that the move resulted from automated moderation or a deliberate cleanup of legacy trademarks.
xAI’s Grok AI described it as a purposeful retirement of outdated elements rather than a genuine infraction, while neither Elon Musk nor X spokespeople issued any comment as of Monday morning.
This incident underscores the evolving identity of the platform under Musk’s ownership, which also saw a domain shift to x.com in 2024, further distancing it from its Twitter roots.
Industry observers note that while the suspension aligns with X’s stricter enforcement policies, the lack of transparency has fueled debates on consistency in applying rules to high-profile legacy accounts.
