FG Signs N1B Deal with IHS Towers to Build 3MTT Communities

The Federal Government has signed a N1 billion deal with telecom infrastructure company, IHS Tower, to build learning communities across Nigeria for the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy,  announced the partnership on Monday.

According to the Minister, the N1 billion funding from IHS Towers also includes a commitment to paying the salaries of 37 dedicated learning community managers for each location for the next 3 years.

The support came as a boost to the federal government’s program which seeks to train 3 million Nigerians in technical skills over the next 3 years. While applications for phase one of the program, which is targeting 30,000 opened on October 13, over 300,000 Nigerians had applied as of October 19, according to the Minister.

Aside from the 30,000 trainees, the program is also recruiting training providers and partners to drive the initiative.

Announcing the new partnership deal with IHS via a post on X, the Minister said: “I am excited to announce a N1 Billion partnership between the FMoCDE Nigeria and IHS Towers to establish the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Learning Community. This initiative, which is in support of our recently launched 3MTT program, will facilitate the setup of learning communities in the 36 states and the FCT.

“The N1 billion funding from IHS Towers also includes a commitment to paying the salaries of 37 dedicated learning community managers for each location for the next 3 years. This is the first in a number of partnerships that we will be securing in support of our targets, specifically for the 3MTT program and broadly for the Knowledge pillar in our Strategic Blueprint.”

According to Tijani, the 3MTT program is a critical part of the Renewed Hope agenda and is aimed at building Nigeria’s technical talent backbone to power its digital economy and position Nigeria as a net talent exporter.

He said the first phase of the program, executed in collaboration with NITDA, will involve multiple stakeholders including fellows, training providers, partners, and placement organizations.

In the first phase, he said the government would we will select individuals with an interest in specific skills and fund the cost of their training with training providers accepted into the program.

Highlighting how the first phase of the program will run, the Minister stated: “In line with the Ministry’s 1%-10%-100% implementation approach, this first phase will aim to train and place 30,000 technical talents, representing 1% of our overall target. It will be executed based on the framework co-created with key stakeholders across government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector.”

According to the Minister, some of the skills Nigerians would be trained on in the first phase are skills that utilise technology to enhance various roles without directly involving tech creation.

These include Digital Marketing, Project Management Software, Cloud Platforms Navigation, Data Analysis and Visualisation, Digital Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), CRM Management, Accounting Software, Graphics Design, and UX/UI Design, among several others.

Glo Emerged Telecom Company of the Year @ Champion Newspaper Awards

Digital solutions company, Globacom, over the weekend at the annual Champion Newspapers Awards which held Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos won the Telecommunication Company of The Year Award.

The award was in recognition of Globacom’s position as Nigeria’s Most innovative telecoms operator focused on providing affordable tools of communication that will transform lives and businesses.

In her welcome address, Managing Director of Champion Newspapers Limited, Dr (Mrs) Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, expatiate on reason for the awards ceremony. She said, “all that we strive to do is to recognize excellence and hard work with a view to agitating our minds into doing more good”.

She explained further that “for Nigeria to get better and bigger, we will need more of this caliber of people and institutions who we set out to honour this evening because they constitute an integral part of the best”.

The Managing Editor of Champion, Mr Kelvin Egerue remarked that Globacom has made a lot of sacrifice to make telecommunications services available to Nigerians at the most affordable rate. “Nigerians will forever be proud to note that Globacom is always there to ensure that they are not exploited, he said.

Tinubu to Commission NASENI CNG Conversion Centre to Drive Sustainable Energy Solutions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to commission the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering and Training Centre in Utako Abuja.

The landmark event which will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024, marks another NASENI milestone in its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly on sustainable energy alternatives and a clean energy ecosystem.

The NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Centre, a partnership between NASENI and Portland Gas Limited, is a state-of-the-art facility for the conversion of fossil fuel vehicles to CNG, a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative.

The centre equipped with the latest technology and staffed by highly trained professionals to ensure efficient and safe conversions, is aimed at building local capacity in CNG technology.

 It will offer comprehensive training programmes for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders, fostering domestication of expertise in CNG systems and promoting the adoption of green energy solutions across the nation.

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, as part of pre-launch activities, said the establishment of the NASENI-Portland Gas Reverse Engineering Centre marks a transformative moment for Nigeria’s energy sector.

He explained that the CNG Centre underscores NASENI’s unwavering commitment to sustainable innovation and the development of home-grown technological and manufacturing capabilities. “At NASENI, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and providing affordable, eco-friendly fuel alternatives to Nigerians”

“The initiative is expected to significantly reduce vehicular emissions, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Additionally, the adoption of CNG will offer economic benefits by reducing fuel costs for consumers and creating new job opportunities in the Nigeria’s green energy sector,” he said.

“NASENI invites all stakeholders, from vehicle owners to industry professionals, to take advantage of the services and training opportunities available at the new centres. Together, we can drive forward a greener, more sustainable future for Nigeria,” Halilu further said.

Aligned with the Presidential directive on CNG (PCNGi), NASENI has a notable proficiency in automotive reverse engineering, exemplified by the successful local assembly of CNG kits.

NASENI’s team of engineers and technicians have skilfully assembled a comprehensive CNG sequential kit, comprising essential components such as Pressure Regulator, Petrol Solenoid Valve with manual override switch, On-Off valve and refuelling connector.

Others include Control Module/Change-over Switch, CNG level Indicator (LED Indicator), Gas Air Mixer, CNG cylinder with valve, vapour bag & bracket, Petrol hose, low-pressure gas hose, ignition advance processor, wire harness, and NRV in petrol return line.
