The fourth edition of Hip Hop World Awards holds on May 16, 2009 as the Nigerian music industry gears up to storm the International Conference Centre, Abuja which will be a rendezvous for stars.
The show will be anchored by Banky W and Kemi Adetiba. Banky is a gifted R&B act, who only returned to Nigeria from his base in the U.S last year. Although truly talented and hardworking, his works have only just started to yield results and many more are now beginning to appreciate his skills.
Adetiba however, is fresh from film school and is a tested hip hop head, music enthusiast and broadcaster. Having worked differently with Silverbird’s Rhythm FM and Mnet, the young lady has amassed a load of skills and experience, which she gladly brings to bear in this year’s HHWA.
Both will guide guests through that May night, introducing performers, presenters, and giving regular back-stage and media gallery snippets.
“We’ve taken our time to select these two,” said Ayo Animashaun, executive producer of the awards.
“There are so many talented and truly hardworking people in our industry, and it doesn’t matter where they are or what they do. Our job is to continually bring them to the fore and bring them on board as we give our generation a voice.”
A list of performers made available by the organizers includes 9ice, Lord of Ajasa, Dare Art Alade, MI, Timaya, Da Trybe, Kel, among others.
The event, which became the first music awards in Nigeria to give out prizes to winners, is dangling a bundle of gifts for winners, and this year, the winner in the Next Rated category will get a brand new car.
“We want artistes to see the awards as a prize to die for,” Animashaun stated. “Being nominated or winning is a big deal in itself and those who go home with the award will tell you it is made of pure 21 carat gold.”
The lead sponsor for this year’s event is MTN Xtracool, among Unilever, Harp and Hip TV.
The award will be recorded for later broadcast on Hip TV and partner TV platforms for the viewing pleasure of people who could not make it to the live show.
