Samsung Electronics West Africa, leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies has unveiled its first Ultra High Definition TV, with a ‘floating’ design which, according to the company, will revolutionise home cinema all over the world.

Housed within an easel-like frame that allows it to rotate freely and appear to float in mid-air, the 85-inch TV offers four times the pixels available on other Smart TVs in the market

The product was unveiled earlier this year by Samsung at the CES 2013 in Las Vegas, USA and will be available in Nigeria at the end of April.

Making the announcement at a press briefing in Lagos, Mr. Brovo Kim, managing director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, reiterated Samsung’s goal of creating new experiences for its consumers through its deep understanding of consumers’ lives and its relentless pursuit of discovery and innovation.

“At Samsung, our mission is to help people discover a world of possibilities. We aim to delight them, bringing not just what they expect, but what they have never dreamed is possible. Our new Ultra High Definition Smart TV is delivering on this commitment, re-inventing home entertainment and re-invigorating the consumer electronics market with seamless navigation and personalised user experience, all to create the ultimate lean back experience for our consumers,” he said.

Building on Samsung’s Smart TV platform leadership, the large screen, Ultra High Definition TV offers a blend of technology and craftsmanship to deliver greater detail, unmatched clarity and an immersive and vivid picture quality to viewers.

The TV also provides an audio experience to match its screen size, with an array of 120-watt speakers seamlessly built into the frame of the television.

In addition, users can enjoy enhanced search, navigation and control features, with Samsung’s S-Recommendation with Voice Interaction technology, a personal guide to discovering new and preferred content on Samsung Smart TVs.

Using the new technology, viewers can ask the Smart TV for movie and television show suggestions or request films that feature specific actors.

By analysing a user’s viewing history and the popularity and release dates of television programmes, S-Recommendation creates a personalised menu of on-air and app content for each viewer.

On his part, Mr. Sunil Kumar, director, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics West Africa, said “The advanced user experience available on our smartphones and tablets has been expanded to our Smart TVs, thanks to Samsung’s leadership in connectivity.

Viewers can search and schedule content on a tablet, view content remotely and even mirror the Smart TV on a tablet to take the content with them around the home,” he explained.

At the briefing, Samsung announced the availability of its “Samsung For Enterprise” (SaFE) programme, which according to Mr. Ayo Adegboye, head of the company’s West Africa B2B Division, comprises security standards designed to help companies find mobile devices that are safe to use.

“SaFE is Samsung’s commitment to the B2B market. It’s a comprehensive suite of security standards, apps, on-device encryption, Voice Protocol Networks and mobile device management solutions. With the development of SaFE, Samsung is simplifying mobile device administration and removing concerns about the fragmentation of the Android platform,” he explained.

Samsung also seized the occasion to formally introduce its revolutionary convertible ATIV Smart PC to the media.

According to Mrs Folasade Oyelayo, head of IT, Samsung ATIV Smart PC combines the power of a notebook with the convenience of a tablet media, making it the best ally of smart professionals who need to deliver results on the go.

According to Mr. Raymond Olatokun, Samsung‘s Head of Service, all Samsung products on offer to Nigerian consumers enjoy what he called ‘unequalled after sales support’ so long as they are purchased from authorized dealers in the country.

He said Samsung was the first to introduce 24 months warranty for its line of products in Africa.

National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to collaborate with Nasarawa state government and Bobtrack Tractors, a division of Saint Bob Motors Limited to start the manufacturing and assembling of tractors in the north-central geo-political zone.

Left to Right: The Chief Executive Officer, Bob Track Ltd, Mr. Ibifiri A.C Bob Manuel; the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu; the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, and Mr. Jerry of Bob Track Ltd, during a courtesy visit at NASENI Headquarters on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.

The facilities and infrastructure available at one of NASENI’s Institutes, Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (AMEDI), Lafia, Nasarawa state will be used for assembling and manufacturing of the tractors.

According to the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the project which is aimed at creating wealth and jobs for Nigerian youths is in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of ensuring food security and promotion of mechanized farming and agro-business in the country. Halilu disclosed this when the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdulahi A. Sule led a delegation comprising of Bob Track Tractors to pay a visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, April 22nd, 2024.

Mr. Halilu who assured Governor Sule and the delegation of NASENI’s readiness to do business with them, said, “the Agency is willing to partner with you and sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) so that in the next couple of weeks we will move into action.”

He disclosed that Mr. President had recognized NASENI as a national brand and its National Tractor Recovery Programme wherein 55,000 tractors would be refurbished for mechanized farming nationwide.

In his remarks, Governor Sule said, he aligned with NASENI’s vision of collaborating and promoting made-in-Nigeria goods and also believed that government’s role is to provide a level playing field necessary for businesses to thrive.

The objective of his visit, he said, was to introduce the Bob Track Tractors which deals in assembling and manufacturing of tractor and farm implements with offices in Port Harcourt to NASENI so that it could utilize the existing facilities at AMEDI, Lafia for assembling of tractors instead of acquiring a new land for the business.

The CEO of Bob Track Tractors, Mr. Ibifiri A.C. Bob Manuel said, “We are ready to take up the facility that you have in Nasarawa State, create employment and wealth for the youths in the area and also use it as a hub to drive mechanized agricultural vision of the present administration. We are willing to invest in Nasarawa state with help of His Excellency, his team and NASENI.”
