Zinox Develops Creative Power Solutions for Schools
Zinox Innovation Center has developed a cost effective power solution that will support tertiary institutions’ critical ICT Infrastructure and enable students to charge up to 2500 laptops every hour on campus free.
Leo Stan Ekeh, chairman, Zinox Group, said that his management developed the new product in response to the slow pace of improvement in the power sector and the need to enable students with access to global resources that are cheap and easy to source online.
He told some post graduate students from different Nigerian Universities who visited his company’s corporate Headquarters in Lagos recently that the lack of power in the educational institutions was leading to a new culture of procrastination among the youth.
Exuberance, razor sharpness and spontaneity characteristics of youth are being undermined by the fact of waiting for power – whether it is from the national grid or the school’s generator.
Students have to wait for light to solve their assignments, charge their phones and laptops, respond to the school’s authorities and these can turn to disasters in a knowledge era where even reflexes are tied to the ICT equipment.
Ekeh, noted that some parents can afford to buy laptops and subscribe internet for their children who are in Nigerian institutions, but most times due to power challenges these equipment are not used as no tertiary institution can run generators for 24 hours, seven days a week due to the high cost of diesel.
He queried if these students were to fold their hands and wait for such a day we shall have 24 hour power on campus before taking their studies more seriously? This is what led to this invention.
There may not be light on campus, but at least students can stay online real time as there are facilities to charge their laptops when their batteries are low and most importantly their Internet infrastructure is also powered and live every minute of the day.
Most importantly, the Zinox Innovative Power Solution would return immediacy to the conduct of the youths and ultimately catalyze the development of a knowledgeable and proactive work force, opined Ekeh.
He called on corporate persons to help the Governments to solve the problems of education by commissioning research into these problems.
Admitting that the educational sector was not sufficiently funded, Ekeh urged parents and other stake holders to persevere and take advantage of the students’ formative years to impact enduring values.
He called on the post graduate students to seize the opportunities of this period of their lives and define who they want to be in future.
Edeh observed that post graduate students occupy a very strategic stratum in the educational sector and if properly focused would shape the knowledge society whose threshold we are about to cross.
The Zinox Innovative Center is the umbrella body of the Zinox Research and Development and has been responsible for many product and marketing innovations including the Naira sign on the Zinox international keyboard, the Zinox Card, the largest single e-books platform in Africa, and the innovative marketing that has brought the IT experience to the underserved.

Cybervergent’s Q1 2024 Report Reveals Rising Threat of Remcos RAT Malware in Financial Sector
Cybervergent, a foremost technology company providing automated cybersecurity solutions, in its Quarterly Brief has revealed a troubling trend in the financial sector that shows a spike in attacks utilising the deceptive Remote Control and Surveillance Access Trojan (Remcos RAT) in Q1, 2024.
The findings affirm a stark forewarning to the financial institutions and organisations in the African continent, urging heightened vigilance and proactive measures to mitigate potential escalating risks.
Previously marketed as a legitimate software, Remcos got co-opted by malicious actors and is now a prevalent tool in cybercrime campaigns. This remote access tool grants attackers hidden entry into victims’ devices, allowing them to seize control, pilfer sensitive data, and even introduce stealth backdoors to compromise entire systems. The capabilities of Remcos are diverse and frightening, ranging from disabling vital security features like User Account Control (UAC) to covertly recording user activities.
“As vigilant cybersecurity gatekeepers, we have observed a significant surge in attacks leveraging the Remcos RAT malware,” said Gbolabo Awelewa, the Chief Solutions Officer, Cybervergent. “Financial institutions are particularly targeted due to the sensitive nature of their data and assets. Organisations must remain diligent and adopt proactive monitoring measures to safeguard against such threats.”
The proactive approach adopted by Cybervergent’s Cyber Operations Centre involves meticulous analysis of attacker tactics, constant updating of threat intelligence, and implementing robust endpoint security solutions. These measures are designed to detect, prevent, and neutralise Remote Access Trojans like Remcos, ensuring the continued security and compliance of organisations in the face of evolving cyber threats.
“Our mission is to fortify our clients’ defenses and ensure the seamless operation of their organisations,” added Gbolabo. “By staying ahead of emerging attack vectors and vulnerabilities, we empower businesses to take proactive measures and protect their valuable assets.”
Looking ahead, Adetokunbo Omotosho, Chief Executive Officer of Cybervergent emphasised the firm’s focus on empowering organisations to navigate the complexities of cybersecurity and compliance with dexterity and confidence.
“Cybervergent’s Assurance and Compliance Team has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in the cybersecurity domain, achieving significant milestones and delivering transformative solutions. Our journey through Q1 reflects a deep commitment to advancing the state of cybersecurity compliance, paving the way for a secure and resilient digital future for organisations in Africa and across the world”, he added.
