Airtel Nigeria, has donated items including school uniforms, bags and exercise books to the student of Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The items were donated recently as part of the Telco’s support to its adopted schools across Nigeria every year.

While making the presentation, Mr. Edwin Nwoke, zonal business manager of Airtel in the state, said the gesture was an empowerment platform aimed at developing education in Nigeria.

Nwoke, who represented Veronica Onoja, regional operations director, South Region, said the telco is passionate about education and remains committed to supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged children in Nigeria.

He said, “Airtel Nigeria is passionate about Primary education just as we are committed to the development of disadvantaged and underprivileged children. Our gesture underscores our commitment to offering practical relief, succour, hope and opportunities to children. This donation and indeed our Adopt a School programme aligns with our overall vision of connecting Nigerians to their dreams. We believe that quality education offers a gateway to a better life, as it is an empowerment platform that cannot be overemphasized.”

Onoja thanked the community and the entire staff of the school for choosing to partner with Airtel in building the futures of tomorrow.

On her part, Mrs. Maria Etaike, the School Head Teacher, commended Airtel for coming to relieve the community members of some responsibilities to the children.

She explained that the school is growing everyday with population of pupils who want to school there because of the good gesture they enjoy from Airtel.

Etaike said: “I have to give all the glory to God because when you start something you must take it to the end and with God everything is possible. We just want to say thank you to Airtel because they have relieved us and what we want them to know is that God will continue to bless Airtel .they have done so well.

‘When Airtel came here in 2012, we had a population of 190 in this school as they started the first project and in the following year, the enrolling increased. The number that I gave last year was 300 above and now as my assistant went round to take enrolment, behold we have 550  pupils .

She also recalled that a woman who newly came to this community asked some people where she could take her daughter and Presbyterian Primary School was recommended to her.

Mrs. Etaike also noted some achievement the school has recorded: “We took second in reading and writing in the whole of Cross River State. A child in Primary four had a scholarship of child N100, 000. Teachers in this school are trying their best to make sure that all what Airtel is doing is not in vain. We will never let you down as far as this school is concern. We will never let Ediba down as far as this school is concern,” she said.
