NCC Board Pays Tribute to Late Board Chairman, Ahmed Joda in Yola
The Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has paid an official condolence visit to the family of Ahmed Joda, former Board Chairman of the Commission, in his country home in Yola, Adamawa State. Alh. Ahmed Joda passed on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the age of 91.
The delegation, which was led by the Chairman of NCC Board, Prof. Adeolu Akande included the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Commission Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Engr. Ubale Maska, and Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Barrister Adeleke Adewolu. Also on the visit were other Board Commissioners, including Mr. Clement Baiye, Chief Uche Onwude, Alhaji Abdulazeez Salman and Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar as well as senior Management staff of the Commission.
The NCC delegation was received by family members of the late Chairman led by his eldest son, Alhaji Ali Joda at the deceased’s Yola town in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the visit, Akande, who presented a condolence letter from the Hon. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami to the family, paid glowing tribute to the late Joda, and eulogized him for leaving indelible footprints on the sands of the nation’s telecommunications industry.
He said the telecom industry and by extension the entire economy have benefited immensely from the solid foundation laid by the Joda-led NCC Board from 2001 to 2010, during which the sector recorded landmark achievements in terms of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), which revolutionized the telecommunications landscape in Nigeria.
Amplifying the voice of Akande, during the Commiseration visit, Danbatta described Joda “as an exceptional individual”, adding that the remarkable role played by Joda had helped in transforming the NCC from what it was back in 2000 to what it is currently.
According to Danbatta, the NCC is known across the African continent and beyond as a foremost and world-class regulatory agency. He said the sterling status achieved by NCC was due to the commitment, hard work, diligence and exceptional leadership demonstrated by Joda when he held sway as NCC Board Chairman for 10 years.
“No amount of praise and tribute will be adequate to capture the immeasurable contributions of Baba Joda to the telecommunications industry in Nigeria in general, and to the Nigerian Communications Commission in particular.
Baba Joda is leaving behind a robust legacy that will live after him, as he is today credited with the GSM revolution in Nigeria”, Danbatta said.
“Arising from Baba Joda’s exceptional vision and robust leadership, the NCC recorded landmark achievements such as the construction of NCC’s Head Office in Maitama, Abuja; the NCC’s Communications & Digital Economy Complex (CDEC), Mbora, Abuja, as well as the establishment of Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), among others. These are some of the remarkable achievements recorded during his time as the Chairman of the Board”, he said.
In an emotion-laden voice, Prof, Danbatta noted that Baba Joda was a father to him, describing his death as a great personal loss.
He recalled how, recently, from his sick bed, Baba Joda painstakingly wrote the foreword to his (Danbatta’s) Compendium of Speeches entitled “Catalysing Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Transformation through Broadband Infrastructure”, due to be launched soon.
Danbatta, led the delegation in prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

Exposing the Malicious Sabotage of MoMo PSB Project in Enugu Ezike
By Cyprian Nwodo
The recent activities of some individuals with one Davids Iyida attempting to sabotage the MoMo Payment Service Bank project intended to benefit, especially Enugu Ezike people, have raised significant concern and outrage within the community.
Such actions aimed at undermining a project with immense potential to uplift and empower the people of Enugu Ezike can only be described as malicious.
The MoMo PSB project is designed to bring financial services closer to the people of Enugu Ezike, facilitating easier access to banking and financial transactions.
This project is expected to create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and provide a much-needed boost to the local economy. In a region where such opportunities are rare, the MoMo PSB project represents a beacon of hope for many residents.
It is particularly baffling and disheartening to witness a member of the community collaborate with outsiders to hinder the progress of their own people.
The reasons behind such alliances remain unclear, but the impact of these actions is evident and deeply troubling. Working to obstruct the project is not only delaying progress but also actively working against the welfare and advancement of Enugu Ezike.
The efforts to destroy Kingsley Ifeanyi Adonu’s good intention, despite all the positive contributions he has made, are nothing short of wickedness.
Adonu, a visionary entrepreneur and the leading MTN Partner in the South East, has dedicated significant resources and efforts to bring the MoMo Payment Service Bank project to fruition.
His vision for the community includes economic growth, financial inclusion, and overall development. Attacking his vision is an attack on the progress and future of Enugu Ezike.
The question that lingers in the minds of many is: Why sabotaging our own benefits? In a time when unity and collective effort are paramount for the community’s advancement, such actions of sabotage are counterproductive and harmful. The community needs all hands on deck to drive development and improve the quality of life for its residents. Internal conflicts and malicious actions only serve to set back these efforts.
Despite the challenges and the malicious attempts to derail the project, it is important to reaffirm that S Mobile Group vision for establishing a MoMo Payment Service Bank in Enugu Ezike will prevail.
The community stands behind this vision, recognizing the immense benefits it promises to bring. Efforts to hinder progress will ultimately fail in the face of collective determination and support.
The actions of these ungrateful individuals, aimed at sabotaging the MoMo PSB project, are grave disservice to the community of Enugu Ezike.
In a time when progress and development are desperately needed, such malicious activities are deeply regrettable.
However, the vision and determination of Kingsley Ifeanyi Adonu and the community’s support ensure that the project will succeed, bringing much-needed growth and prosperity to Enugu Ezike.
Let it be known that no amount of sabotage can dim the light of progress and unity.
