The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) is set to become the number one sort after government agency in the country with the establishment of five new companies from NIPOST.
Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Minister of communications, stated this at the one-day stakeholders’ conference organised by the Nigeria Postal Service on Friday.
He noted that with the implementation of NIPOST’s Strategic Roadmap initiatives, in two years it will become the number one agency of government.
He added that the conference is very important because it’s setting NIPOST apart from other government agencies.
The postal agency, according to him is breaking away from the past to a digital future.
He revealed that NIPOST’ digital addressing system (DAS) will address the challenges of inadequate address system we currently have in the country.
He explained that NIPOST will establish NIPOST banking and insurance company; NIPOST property and development company; NIPOST transport and logistics services company; NIPOST E-government services company; and NIPOST E-commerce services company.
These, he stated, are aimed at turning the agency into the biggest revenue generating parastatal of government.
“More than 60 per cent of Nigerians live in rural areas and in the on-going re-organisation of NIPOST ordered by President Muhammaduy Buhari, the NIPOST is going to use its 1, 600 facilities in the country to address shortfalls in banking at the rural areas, he declared.
Adebayo also said that through NIPOST E-government services company it will deliver driver and vehicle license and international passport to millions of Nigerian.
According to him, “We hope to establish NIPOST banking and financing in areas where banks don’t have sufficient presence.
“We shall also establish NIPOST property and development company, NIPOST has many landed properties scattered across the country and they are going to be used for the properties investments to bring a lot of money into the coffers of NIPOST.
“We are also establishing the NIPOST transport and logistics company, and to add to this is the establishment of NIPOST E-government Services Company, which will carter for e-governance particularly with the application and delivery of drivers licenses, vehicle documents and international passports.”
