OPPO has launched the new Reno2 Series into the Nigerian market at an event held at LASWA Jetty, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The Reno2 and Reno2 F models are the latest of OPPO’s popular Reno series that will change the boundaries of users’ creativity, coming packed with photography-enhancing features.

The quad-camera setup includes 5x Hybrid Zoom allowing users to get far closer to a subject, ultra-clear night shots even under near darkness condition on Ultra Dark Mode and super-stable video shooting on the go thanks to Ultra Steady Video.

The Reno2 series unique multi-perspective capabilities enable users to see things differently, inspiring OPPO to launch the “Challenge Your Perspective” campaign, calling on creators to boldly defy conventional Instagram photography by capturing new, fresh perspectives behind the lens.

Joseph Adeola, public relations manager, OPPO Nigeria, said  “Inheriting the already rich creative spirit of the Reno Series, this latest iteration presents our users with even more creative possibilities, empowering them to discover new perspectives.

“Its advanced camera technology performs superbly in a range of environments and scenarios, from busy cities to natural landscapes to broad daylight to dark nightlife.”

Advanced Camera Tech Unleashes User Creativity

OPPO is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of mobile photography. The Reno2 will come equipped with four cameras that provide a full focal length imaging system; offering a 5x Hybrid Zoom, Ultra-Wide Angle lens and more. Three lenses of varying focal lengths work in unison to create a unique 5x Hybrid Zoom effect from the ultra-wide-angle to telephoto, which also fuses image technology to ensure a smooth, seamless zoom transition.

With a 48MP primary lens equipped with Optical Image Stabilization, F1.7 aperture, and a 1/2-inch sensor along with Quad Bayer technology, Reno2 can achieve better performance in low light. The Reno2 Series’ Ultra Dark Mode covers an entire range of different night scenes via a powerful NPU, and OPPO fine-tuned algorithms. Even if light levels measure below 1 lux, it elevates your photos beyond naked eye through hardware network-optimized AI noise reduction.

But a single photo can’t tell a whole story, and with social media users increasingly shooting video, OPPO is paying more attention to Videography than before. OPPO’s industry-leading Ultra Steady Video Mode technology ups the stability of videos, enabling users to capture steady videos while running, skiing, skateboarding, cycling, and more.

It’s achieved through an IMU measuring device with a high sampling rate and a hull sensor, equipped with Electronic Image Stabilization and Optical Image Stabilization. These compensate for users’ shaky shots more accurately, and together with a 60fps frame rate, enhance image stabilization, fluency, and overall image quality.

User-centric design combines practicality with style

The Reno2 is also equipped with a 6.5” dynamic AMOLED screen, 2400×1080 resolution, and a screen-to-body ratio of 93.1%, made from durable 6th Generation Corning® Gorilla® Glass. The Reno2 Z and Reno2 F feature a slightly smaller 6.5’’ AMOLED screen, with 2340×1080 resolution, and a screen-to-body ratio of 91.1%, made from toughened 5th Generation Corning® Gorilla® Glass.

The Reno2 comes with the improved Dynamic AMOLED Screen, which offers sufficient brightness even in bright outdoor environments while extending screen service life by 50% and reducing power consumption by 6%. The Reno2 comes with a Shark fin Pop-up Camera, which supports an ultra-clear backlit shots and all-new AI Beauty Mode while the Reno2 Z and Reno2 F feature a 16MP pop-up front camera featuring an Atmosphere Light.

Cutting-edge hardware and software that delivers superb performance

ColorOS 6.1, running on the latest version of Android Pie 9.0, featuring a smoother and more enjoyable user experience, powers the Reno2 Series. It provides a brand-new visual experience, including wallpaper designs that better match the phone’s exterior design. Light, elegant, and borderless gradient colors are used to replace the previously used large-area color blocks, and new gestures to manage navigation make the phone more comfortable to operate with a single hand.

This Reno2 series offers a complete gaming experience, with optimized features like Touch Boost 2.0, Frame Boost 2.0 and Game Space. Touch Boost 2.0 helps users avoid common pitfalls of running hardcore titles while Frame Boost 2.0 analyses the status of mobile performance so that frame rate and stability will be adjusted to prioritize a first-class gaming experience. Frame Boost 2.0 will also allocate resources to avoid the consumption of too much power and the heating of the phone.

What’s more, Game Space collectively manages game apps to give users a distraction-free and more immersive gaming experience. Overall, the Reno2 Series has five-star gaming performance certification from TUV Rheinland, which tests the overall gaming performance of the phone from the screen, battery life, performance, and signal strength.

The OPPO Reno2 series features fast and safe VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology. This uses a new VFC algorithm, significantly shortening the final 10% of charging time by doubling the trickle charging speed. VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 combines with the Reno2 series’ 4,000mAh (Typ) battery to provide users with a much longer-lasting battery.

MTN Nigeria has announced the commencement of the seventh edition of its mPulse Spelling Bee, a national competition that has grown into one of the most impactful youth literacy initiatives in the country. With a new structure that emphasises nationwide inclusion and physical regional competitions, this year’s edition will engage thousands of students and amplify the brilliance of young Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones.

Kicking off with a practice stage on July 28, 2025, the competition is open to Nigerian students aged 9 to 15 in primary and secondary schools. For the first time, regional competitions will be held physically in three cities: Ibadan for participants in the South-West, Enugu for participants in the South-East and South-South, and Abuja for participants in the North-Central, North-East, and North-West. This new structure reflects MTN’s commitment to giving every child, regardless of region, the opportunity to learn, compete, and shine.

The Spelling Bee competition unfolds in five progressive stages: Practice Stage, Round1 (Entry Phase), Round 2 (Regional Qualification), Round 3 (Physical Regional Competitions), and the Grand Finale. From the first round, the top 3,000students (500 per zone) will qualify for regional rounds, and the best 20spellers from across Nigeria will proceed to the Grand Finale in Lagos. Seven top finalists, each from the regional competitions in Ibadan and Enugu, and six top finalists from the competition in Abuja, will make up the Top 20 finalists for the Grand Finale in Lagos.

The total prize pool for this year’s edition is over ₦40 million, with rewards spread across students, schools, and teachers. The overall winner will be crowned MTN CEO for a Day, receive a ₦5million educational grant, and be named mPulse Face of the Year. The winner will also receive a brand-new laptop and smartphone. Their teacher will receive₦500,000, while the winner’s school will be awarded 10 laptops, 10 MTN 5G routers, and a ₦10 million flagship project.

“The MTN mPulse Spelling Bee isn’t just a competition; it’s a platform for young Nigerians to access recognition, leadership opportunities, and academic support. We are proud to be empowering the next generation of innovators and leaders,” said Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria.

Last year’s winner, Ikenna Ikechukwu, described his journey to the top as one that required determination and sacrifice. “Preparing for the competition meant sleepless nights. There were so many words to learn, and while it’s impossible to know them all,I aimed to master at least 60 to 70%. This platform doesn’t just reward winners; it gives you the confidence to aim higher and believe in your abilities. A special thanks to MTN for this amazing initiative that helps students learn, play, and shine,” he shared.

Now in its seventh year, the mPulse Spelling Bee continues to serve as a bridge between education and opportunity, empowering young minds to grow beyond the classroom. With thousands of students set to participate, this edition hopes to spark conversations, spotlight regional talent, and showcase the power of words in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Hosted on the mPulse website (https://mpulse.mtn.ng), the mPulse Spelling Bee is designed to promote literacy, strengthen comprehension and build confidence through digital learning and healthy competition.

Telcos Say Mobile, Internet Services in Nigeria may Collapse

Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the umbrella body for all mobile network operators, tower companies, and telecommunications infrastructure providers in Nigeria, has expressed deep concerns about ongoing disruptions to the supply logistics of diesel to cell sites across the country.

Telcos Say Mobile, internet Services in Nigeria may Collapse

Gbenga Adebayo, chairman, ALTON

In a statement signed by Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, chairman, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the association claimed it received credible reports that members of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), on Tuesday, blocked access to diesel loading depots in Kaduna, Lagos, and Koko (Delta State), preventing the distribution of diesel to thousands of telecommunications sites operated by one of our key members, IHS Towers.

“This action reportedly stemming from allegations by IHS of diesel misappropriation against 2 member companies of NOGASA and which is being investigated by the requisite authorities, has resulted in a critical threat to the operation of some of the 16,000 telecommunications sites nationwide, servicing Mobile Network Operators.

“These sites not only power mobile and internet services for millions of Nigerians, but also support essential services such as banking transactions, hospital communications, emergency response systems, and national security operations.

“While ALTON does not necessarily interfere in disputes between its members and third parties, we are gravely concerned about the wider implications of this action on national infrastructure and public safety.

“We recognize and deeply respect the vital role NOGASA and NUPENG have played in sustaining Nigeria’s energy supply chain and supporting national development over the years, and we trust that they will continue to uphold these values by ensuring that their actions do not jeopardize critical national infrastructure or public welfare.

ALTON however requested that uninterrupted access be granted to the Diesel supply locations, and urge all parties involved to embrace constructive dialogue to resolve the matter, without further disruption to essential services.

It also reminded all stakeholders that telecommunications infrastructure has been officially classified as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) under Nigerian law. Any deliberate disruption or blockade that affects the operation of such infrastructure constitutes a serious threat to national security and economic stability and will attract strict legal consequences.

The Association called on the leadership of NUPENG and NOGASA, to intervene by calling their members to order. “Disputes must be resolved within the framework of lawful contracts and applicable legal processes, without resorting to actions that endanger the operations of an entire industry and the lives and livelihoods that depend on it.

“We also call on relevant authorities, including the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and other critical stakeholders, to urgently intervene to forestall a looming nationwide communications blackout.

“ALTON remains fully committed to ensuring quality, reliable, and resilient telecommunications services for all Nigerians. However, disruptions of this nature undermine our members’ ability to maintain and improve service delivery and threaten the integrity of the country’s digital and communications ecosystem,” the statement added.
