Resourcery, Others Plan Green Data Forum
Resourcery Plc, a leading system integrator in West Africa in conjunction with SYSTIMAX CommScope, NetApp, Gamatronic, KitsKoo, Cisco and Data Group IT is organizing a one-day business seminar tagged; “Data Centre: An evolution in IT requirement for Business Service Delivery.”
This event is targeted at mid-level Information Technology managers who are in charge of Data Centre conceptualization, design, implementation and management across all business sectors in Nigeria and Ghana.
With leading Data experts drawn from the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Nigeria as speakers, the one-day business session provides a very important opportunity for attendees to learn first-hand the dynamics of the new trend in data centre design,development and management.
Mr. Bisike Uba, Business Solutions Manager (Enterprise Network Infrastructure) Resourcery, said that with the world going green on all fronts, Resourcery is using the session as an opportunity to explore the need for the development of eco-friendly data centres in which the mechanical, electrical and technology systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency with very minimum environmental impact.
Uba said; “Without any doubt, organizations in Nigeria are facing the unrelenting economic need to reduce cost and the Information Technology units are not immune from this pressure. This is why we have brought together leading lights in the development and management of Data Centres with a view to helping our customers’ transit from costly Data Center operations into fluid and efficient processes that deliver savings to their organizations.”
He added that; “It is common knowledge that partnership is the new way to go in the development of Data Centres which explains why you’ll find organizations like Cisco, NetApp and VmWare working together to develop the Flexpod. Such partnership is also evident with CommScope developing the cabling aspect of a data centre while Gamatronics focus on the power aspect. Such trends are helping data centres achieve convergence without losing capability.”
Speaking on the technical importance of the event, Eyitayo Ajayi, Technical Manager, Resourcery noted that the need for adequate , reliable and uninterrupted power and cooling dominate data centre requirements today.
However, in the coming years, the need to minimize carbon footprints and the use of alternative energy sources like photovoltaic, heat pumps and evaporative cooling would shape data centre development and maintenance globally.
“Just as confirmed by “Gartner” in its findings, energy consumption shall remain a dominant trend in data centre development in the next five years. However, there is now a growing need to reduce energy consumption and it is going to take various forms like ‘green’ technologies, such as chilled water or refrigerant cooling at the device level, to real-time infrastructure management. This new drive would allow the movement of resources based on workloads and time of day,” he said.
Tunde Oshunkoya, a Data Centre specialist also with Resourcery added that; “Data centre managers must be prepared to virtualize as much as possible. They should also be prepared to implement new trends like row- and rack-based cooling for higher-density equipment. This can help reduce energy consumption by up to 15% while making the data centre more scalable. Once organizations understand how an efficient data centre aligns with their business goals, management can easily see opportunities for consolidation and transformation of its operations from a cost centre to a value-based centre.”

Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a stern warning to content creators filming and sharing videos of unsuspecting citizens on social media, describing such practices as direct violations of citizens’ rights to informational self-determination.

The Commission drew attention to individuals capturing pictures and footage of the general public without consent, breaching Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).
NDPC specifically flagged a content creator in Lagos State who films unsuspecting passersby at roadsides for a “reality show”. The Commission stressed that processing personal images in this manner demands explicit consent or a justifiable lawful basis under the NDP Act.
Preliminary investigations revealed no public or legitimate interest served by this “wilful invasion of privacy”. Data subjects, the Commission noted, have no reasonable expectation that their images would be captured and broadcast globally by an unknown individual.
National Commissioner/CEO Dr Vincent Olatunji has instructed social media platform owners—including TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Meta—to intensify enforcement of community guidelines to prevent harm from unlawful and unfair personal data processing.
Platforms failing to act promptly face sanctions under the NDP Act. Individual creators remain personally liable for violations, potentially facing criminal prosecution for infringing citizens’ and data subjects’ privacy rights.

NDPC emphasised that abuse of rights under the guise of entertainment will not be tolerated, urging compliance to safeguard Nigerians’ data privacy in the digital age.
